Scholarships
To accomplish its mission, the SCNF offers the following
scholarships each year. The amount of each scholarship is
determined annually by the Board of Trustees. Unless stated
otherwise, the application deadline is May 15th and the
scholarships are generally awarded around August 1st.

Appalachian District Nurses Association
Scholarship
This scholarship endowment is created by the Appalachian
Nurses Association for the purpose of providing an annual
scholarship for an Associate Degree, Baccalaureate or Higher
Degree nursing student who either attends school in one
of the four Appalachia District counties or is a permanent
resident of those counties (Greenville, Anderson, Pickens
and Oconee). The criteria and amount of the scholarship
is determined by the ADNA in consultation with the SCNF
Board of Trustees.

Evelyn Johnson Entrekin Scholarship
This scholarship honors the late Evelyn Johnson Entrekin,
a well known leader of public health nursing in South Carolina.
She served with SCDHEC for over 20 years and led her district
to become the first in the state to receive national accreditation.
Funds for the Evelyn Johnson Entrekin endowment come from
her estate and contributions are designated for individuals
pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. This scholarship
is awarded annually.

Mary Ellen Hatfield School Nursing
Scholarship
The purpose of the SCSNCC scholarship endowment is to provide
an annual scholarship to a Registered Nurse and a Licensed
Practical Nurse currently practicing nursing in a SC school
setting who desires to further his/her education. The South
Carolina School Nurse Conference Committee establishes the
criteria for the scholarship and names the recipients of

Nurses Care Scholarships
The Nurses Care Specialty License Plate Initiative was
created in 2002 to provide an opportunity for nurses and
the supporters of nursing to make a contribution to the
profession and to increase the public's awareness of the
contribution of nurses. "Nurses Care" specialty
liscence plates are available from the Department of Motor
Vehicles. The proceeds are used to fund both graduate and
undergraduate scholarships.

Palmetto Gold Undergraduate Scholarships
The Palmetto Gold Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded
each year from contributions to the Palmetto Gold Nurse
Recognition and Scholarship Program and proceeds from the
Palmetto Gold Gala. A scholarship is presented to each registered
nurse undergraduate program in SC and the recipient is determined
by the faculty at the program of nursing. These scholarships
are awarded in January each year and the recipients are
recognized at the annual Palmetto Gold Gala.

Renatta S. Loquist Scholarship for
Graduate Nursing Education
This scholarship honors Renatta Loquist, a well respected
nurse leader in SC who was instrumental in establishing
the Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition and Scholarship Program.
She also serves as the Foundation's president. The first
scholarship will be awarded in January 2007. The funding
for this scholarship comes from the contributions to the
Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition and Scholarship Program
and proceeds from the Palmetto Gold Gala. The recipient
is determined by the Palmetto Gold Steering Committee, a
special committee of the SCNF. The recipient of this scholarship
is recognized at the annual Palmetto Gold Gala.

Virginia C. Phillips Scholarships
The Virginia C. Phillips Scholarship Fund was established
in 1979 to honor Ms. Phillips, a nursing leader in SC whose
contributions to nursing and to public health nursing are
many and varied. She held numerous leadership positions
in SCDHEC including State Director of Public Health Nursing
from 1972-1979. She also served as President of SCNA from
1963-1965. A scholarship is awarded each year to an undergraduate
and a graduate nursing student committed to pursuing a career
in community health nursing/public health nursing. For more
